The #1 Hot 100 Song and other #1’s on Billboard for the week of July 12, 2008

The #1 song for the second week on the Hot 100 is Katy Perry with her song “I Kissed a Girl.” The song is doing much better than Denver-born artist Jill Sobule’s similarly titled song (though they have different lyrics and styles), which peaked at #67 in 1995. I believe it will be number one for a third week next week as well, because the only threat to the top spot might be The Jonas Brothers‘ “Burnin’ Up,” which debuted on the chart at number five with a bullet. So far, that song is only on the chart because of digital downloads and the occasional play of the video on the Disney Channel.

The #1 album on the Billboard Top 200 is Coldplay’s Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends for a second week. Keyshia Cole’s “Heaven Sent” tops the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for a fourth week. Montgomery Gentry jumps 3-1 to top the Hot Country Songs chart with “Back When I Knew It All.” There is nothing changed on Billboard’s rock charts, with Weezer’s “Pork and Beans” at No. 1 on Modern Rock for a ninth week and Disturbed’s “Inside the Fire” leading Mainstream Rock for a ninth as well. All chart information this week was found on Billboard.com.

What do you think will be the number one song next week?
