Other number ones for the week of 10/6-10/12/08
The #1 movie over the past weekend (10/3-10/5) was the Disney talking doggie film Beverly Hills Chihuahua, which brought in a surprising $29,300,465 in its first weekend. Starring the mostly Latino voices of Drew Barrymore, George Lopez, Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo, Andy Garcia, Placido Domingo, Edward James Olmos, Paul Rodriguez, Cheech Marin, and Luis Guzman, this family film is a cute one for the kids. The parents will be entertained as well, but its not really one that I could see adults paying full price for without kids present.
The #1 TV program, according to the Nielsen Ratings for the week of 9/29/08-10/5/08, was still ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars 7“ (by the way…congratulations to opera singer Neal E. Boyd for winning NBC’s “America’s Got Talent 3.” If it wasn’t going to be my favorite finalist Nuttin’ But Stringz, I’m glad this emotional everyman could win it.) Isn’t it ironic that one of the athletes in the competition, Olympic gold medallist Misty May-Treanor is now out of the competition because of an injury, but 82-year-old actress Oscar-winning actress Cloris Leachman is still in it? I think that even she knows that she won’t win ultimately, but it’s fun to watch her.
The #1 Fiction book according to the New York Times Bestseller Lists is The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski, and the #1 Non-Fiction book for a fourth week is Hot, Flat, and Crowded by Thomas L. Friedman.
