The #1 Hot 100 Song and other #1’s on Billboard for the week of November 8, 2008

Why does America want “Whatever You Like?” T.I.’s song is #1 yet again for a seventh non-consecutive week on the Billboard Hot 100…despite me giving you alternatives like T.I.’s other chart-topper with Rihanna, “Live Your Life” (currently #2 with a bullet, and is the Airplay Gainer for the week), or “Weird Al” Yankovic’s version of the song. Fortunately, it doesn’t have a bullet this week, so it will most likely be taken over by “Life” again next week. If not, then there is one other contender for next week…Beyoncé Knowles’ “If I Were a Boy” from her upcoming album I Am…Sasha Fierce (release date: 11/18/2008.) Thanks to digital downloads, the song jumps from #68 to #3 with a bullet on its third week on the chart.

As I very easily predicted, AC/DC’s Black Ice topped the Top 200 Albums chart, with sales of 784,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. It is the second highest debut week of 2008, behind the 1.005 million unit first week of Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III. Keep in mind…the veteran hard rock band’s first album in eight years was sold only at Wal-mart stores, Sam’s Club stores, and through AC/DC’s website. It will be a short stay at #1 though, because several albums could possibly top it next week. Toby Keith’s That Don’t Make Me a Bad Guy, Rascal Flatts’ Greatest Hits, Volume 1, Celine Dion’s My Love: Essential Collection, and Pink’s Funhouse are all strong contenders (I think that Keith’s album will do it though.) The #1 song on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart is “Miss Independent” by Ne-Yo, which is his first #1 on that chart. Carrie Underwood scores her seventh #1 on the Hot Country Songs chart with “Just a Dream.” Metallica’s “The Day That Never Comes” is still #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart for a seventh non-consecutive week, while The Offspring’s “You’re Gonna Go Far, Kid” is #1 on the Modern Rock chart for a sixth week. All chart information was found on Billboard.com.

I’ve listened to the Beyoncé song, which isn’t bad, and I still prefer T.I’s “Live Your Life” more personally, but if “Whatever You Like” is whatever you like…there is nothing I can do to stop you. As I stated above, I don’t think that it will be #1 for a eighth week next week…but stranger things have happened.
